Once any fracture or breakage occurs to the rubber hose, it may cause economic loss and even personal injury. Complicated abnormal vibration may also cause leakage of oil or gas, resulting in fire risks. The following measures may be taken if fracture is found on hoses:
I.Binding
Applysuperglue (a type of glue commonly used on construction machinery) to the fracture area and cover the fracture area by a piece of oil-resistant rubber sheet 2~3 times wider than the fracture length, wrap the fracture by 2~3 layers (with glue applied to each layer) of oil-resistant rubber sheet and then bind the rubber sheet by 12# wire. The hose is still usable after the glue becomes solid.
II.Transposition
Fractures on hydraulic hoses are usually caused by large pressure, user may exchange the positions of rubber hoses subject to low pressure and those with fractures due to high pressure.
III.Modification
Cut off the connector of fractured rubber hose and find another piece of replacement rubber hose with similar pressure capacity and length. Cut off the connector on the replacement hose and weld the connector of fractured hose to the replacement hose at correct angle. The new rubber hose is usable after cleanup.
Clean and cut off the fractured area from the rubber hose and insert a steel pipe between two ends of the rubber hose (in special emergency situations, steel pipe with the same OD may be used), and then tighten the rubber hose to the steel pipe by using steel clamps (in special emergency situations, 8# iron wire may be used in place of steel clamps). The new rubber hose is usable after cleanup.
All these measures are only applicable in emergency situations and inevitably compromise the hose performance, therefore the damaged rubber hose needs to be replaced in time.
